Bristol Borough first responders were dispatched Tuesday to the St. Mark Catholic School for reports of a gas like odor which caused 13 students to complain of scratchy throats and headaches, according a fire official.
Fire crews responded to the report of the gas odor at the Radcliffe Street school building at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, Bristol Borough Fire Chief Herb Slack said.

According to the chief, the school was evacuated and the students were relocated to St Mark’s Church as fire companies employed gas detection meters with sensors for oxygen, flammable gases, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds.
Slack said the classroom where the odor appeared to originate from and the adjacent interior and exterior areas were checked and were found to have normal readings for oxygen. All other readings were zero.
The odor, according to Slack, was transient and dissipated quickly. The source of the odor has not been discovered, the chief said.

Crews from Bristol Fire Company, Bristol Consolidated Fire Company, Goodwill Hose Company and America Hose Hook and Ladder Company responded. The Bucks County Rescue Squad was also dispatched to the school.
Students and staff returned to the school once the entire school building was cleared by fire crews, Slack said.

Bucks County Rescue Squad evaluated the 14 students. Some students were turned over to their parents, Slack said.
