Bristol Township is now part of a growing trend of municipal governments auctioning off their old equipment online.
The township is selling several old police cars, public works trucks and other equipment on Municibid.com, a website that handles government auctions.

At the most recent council meeting, Township Manager Bill McCauley spoke of the auction.
Bids range from $100 for an old police car to several thousand for a backhoe, which was formally used by public works.
“Revenues from the sale go back into the General Fund. By using Municibid’s online auction website, we can not only recycle used surplus equipment that is no longer useful for the Township, but we also expect to generate more non-tax revenue as a result,” Township Operations Manager Scott Swichar said.

The township said police lights and graphics will be removed by its crews prior to the vehicles being turned over to the buyer.

According to the Municibid site, there are no warranties and no guarantees the vehicles will work.
A public viewing of the 25 items for sale will be held Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the public works building at 1630 River Road in Croydon. Private inspection will be scheduled by appointment. Online bidding ends September 9.
