A 44-year-old man with no known address broke into the Kelch House in Bristol Borough sometime between closing on August 20 and opening on August 21. He left a trail of evidence that led police right to him.
Bristol Borough police responded to a burglary call on August 21 and it was reported a burglary occurred overnight at the popular restaurant located on 101 Mill Street, police said.

Owner Dawn Kelch told police someone had smashed a window next to the entrance and was able to reach in to open the door entering ย the business forcibly, court records say.
Police investigation revealed Russell ย Carlson, 44, upon entering the eatery, made a beeline for the ย bar taking “three or four bottles” of alcohol and continued to walk around the restaurant leaving a trail of blood behind from unidentified injury, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Investigators, further found Carlson walked across the street to a vacated property and hid a bottle of wine, which authorities found and collected for evidentiary purposes, court documents say.

Carlson admitted to police, records ย show, ย that he broke the sidelight of the business, opening the door, and removing three or four ย bottles of alcohol, admitting to officials that he has a long history of alcoholism.
Carlson was arraigned byย Magisterial District Judgeย Charles W. Baum on burglary and theft charges with a preliminary hearing set for September 4 at Bristol Borough District Court.

He is now in Bucks County Jail.
