Substance Leaking ID’d as Lube; No Threat to Safety

Fire crews rushed to the CSX-owned train tracks above Flowers Mill Road in Middletown Township Saturday afternoon following reports that a rail car was leaking.

Emergency officials arrived at the scene and were able to determine the substance leaking from the car was a non-hazardous lubricant, Middletown Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said.

Police closed Flowers Mill Road at around 1:30 p.m., and fire trucks staged in the area until the leaking substance was deemed safe.

McGuire said the lubricant was leaking from the top of the train car and was reported to 9-1-1 by someone who saw it.

Official were unsure of who owned the leaky rail car.
