Rumblings from Bristol Township, its police force and a number of township insiders have been reporting the two officers re-called by the township to return to work on July 1 is in jeopardy.
A police source close to the situation said the officers were told last Friday that they wouldn’t be returning to the force on that scheduled day as LevittowNow reported the week prior to the municipal primaries.

The two officers in question Shawn Lyons and Kevin ย Jackson are waiting to hear from the township manager ย about their start date, one insider said “but it doesn’t look good at all,” they said.
Township Manager Bill McCauley, in response to requests by LevittownNow.com, said that he was recently told by the ACT 111 arbitrator that the his decision would be coming any day now and wanted the opportunity to review the determination before calling the officers back. “I’ve spoken with both officers and told them I want to review the award by the state, before we make any final decisions,” he said.

On May 6, the township announced the police ย recall six months earlier than expected because of the township’s “strong financial performance in 2012,” ย McCauley said in a ย press release.

That financial strength has seemed to wither away ย in light of what one insider said was going to be a “crushing blow” to the financial health of the township in light of the arbitration deal expected to come any day now.
“We’re caught between a rock and a hard place on this one,” Councilman Craig Bowen said.
The timing of the original announcement, 15 days before the municipal primary, said the township insider, ย “has to be questioned. You know what I mean.”

Officer Jackson, Badge No 157 and ย Officer Lyons Badge 158, are the two officers who were recalled.
Jackson declined to comment at this time.

“I’ll be there to on July 1 at 8 a.m. to report for work,” said ย Lyons.
